EATS 2011 Re-Cap

Following our tradition, the EATS dinner meeting coincided with the first major snowstorm of the year.  However, despite this weather, 100 hardy attendees braved the storm to attend this year’s annual EATS dinner meeting.

A special thank you to our guest speaker, Daryl Foley of Group 10 Engineering, who drove up from Calgary to give his presentation on In-Situ Oil Sands Operations.  The presentation covered a broad range of topics, as did Daryl during a substantial Q&A session after the presentation.

This event was hosted by the Edmonton Association of Technical Societies, which includes membership from eight technical societies (including the American Society of Quality, the American Welding Society, ASM International, the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineers, the Canadian Welding Association, NACE International, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers).

The event was co-hosted by the Alberta Metal Fab Innovation [AMFI] Program, which AMFI helped advertise this year’s event, and also helped with operations and attendee registration.  On that note, the AWS Alberta Section would like to thank AITF for providing access to their fantastic building facilities.

Finally, thank you to the many attendees who participiated in the day’s event.  Their support provides the motivation we need to continue to host strong technical events.
