Moonbuggy Results

A project has come to a close as OSU Engineering Students finished competition at the annual NASA Great Moonbuggy Race.  This years team faced many challenges along the road with a crippling economy.  Planning began early in the fall to construct an entirely new buggy (2008 was the first year of participation) to compete in the 2009 NASA Great Moonbuggy Race.  As design and analysis of new components came together, a proposal was constructed for an exclusive sponsor pertaining to financial budget and team goals for the year.  Due to the current economic state the sponsor was unable to fund the project.  This did not stop some students though, as they pushed through, pulled together, and found a way to fund a rebuild of last years buggy.  Financial support was gained approximately 2 months before the competition and the students still managed to complete a vehicle in time for competition.  Many of the parts were borrowed or made from old or existing parts.  This proved to be unsuccessful as the break down of old parts from previous use resulted in two DNF times for the team.
As a whole, the team has stated that they learned a lot about teamwork, leadership, metal fabrication, and engineering.  Students hope to continue the project next year and compete in the spring of 2010.

The Details:
